SECOND ROBBER SENTENCED
IN KANSAS CITY, KAN., BANK ROBBERY
KANSAS CITY, KAN.. – A Kansas City, Kan., man has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for his part in a June 2005 bank robbery in Kansas City, Kan
.
Clarence E. Jones, 24, was sentenced during a hearing Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia.
“Mr. Jones and his accomplice both wore black ski masks and brandished silver colored handguns during the robbery,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren. “They put a teller in fear of her life when one of them pointed his gun at her and said, ‘You have 10 seconds to give me the money or I am going to kill you.’”
Jones pleaded guilty in January to one count of carrying and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. In his plea, he admitted that on June 23, 2005, he and co-defendant Damian Horton entered the U.S. Bank at 5429 Turner Road in Kansas City, Kan., and demanded money from the teller.
Horton was sentenced in March to 84 months in federal prison.
Melgren commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas City Kansas Police Department, which investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney David Smith, who prosecuted the case.
