CONVICTED DEFENDANT IN RICO CASE CHARGED WITH MAKING THREATS AGAINST WITNESS
WICHITA, KAN. – Clinton A.D. Knight, 30, Wichita, Kan., has been charged with making threats against a federal witness, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.
In a criminal complaint, Knight is charged with one count of threatening to cause bodily injury to another with intent to retaliate against a person for testimony at an official proceeding. Knight was convicted in November 2008 on charges of participating in a racketeering enterprise, conspiracy to engage in racketeering, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and maintaining a residence in furtherance of distributing crack cocaine. He is awaiting sentencing in that case.
A criminal complaint states that on Aug. 25, 2009, Knight called a witness identified as M.M. On the phone, Knight was “angry and upset.” He identified himself during the first call. Two other calls to the witness were forwarded to voice mail and Knight left voice messages. In one of the calls he dared the witness to record the message and give it to the police. Knight made a number of angry comments about another person, who police believe was Deandre Davis. Davis testified against Knight while Knight was on trial in October 2008 on racketeering charges.
If convicted, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. The Wichita Police investigated.
