DRUG TRAFFICKERS IN KANSAS CITY, KAN., SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS, 24 YEARS, AND 12 YEARS
KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Three men convicted of drug trafficking in Kansas City, Kan., have been sentenced to federal prison, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.
During a hearing Monday in Kansas City, Kan., U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia handed down the following sentences:
– Miguel Angel Costa Gastelum, 34, who is not a citizen of the United States, was sentenced to 420 months in federal prison.
– Armando Chavez-Flores, 39, Kansas City, Kan., was sentenced to 292 months in federal prison.
– Javier Hernandez, 27, was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison.
In January 2009, the three men were tried and convicted on charges of conspiring from Jan. 1, 2007, through Sept. 18, 2007, to distribute methamphetamine in Wyandotte County, Kan. Cota-Gastelum was convicted on one count of conspiracy, one count of distributing methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of carrying a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien. Chavez Flores was convicted on one count of conspiracy, one count of distributing methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Hernandez was convicted on one count of conspiracy.
Welch commended the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken for their work on the case.
