LEXINGTON, KY - A Lexington, Ky., man who previously admitted he possessed multiple firearms as a convicted felon was sentenced today to 46 months in prison.
U.S. District Judge Karen K. Caldwell sentenced 24 year-old Chasmagic Lawton for possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony offense. Judge Caldwell enhanced Lawton’s sentence because two of the firearms were determined to have been stolen.
Lawton admitted that he possessed a firearm last October after having been convicted of a felony offense. According to the facts admitted during his guilty plea in August of this year, Lawton illegally possessed three firearms in Fayette County.
Under federal law, Lawton must serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence and will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years after his release.
Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Stuart L. Lowrey, Special Agent in Charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives jointly announced the sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the Lexington Division of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The U.S. Attorney’s Office was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hydee R. Hawkins.
