London, Ky. —Five marijuana manufacturers were sentenced today by judge Danny C. Reeves in separate cases for growing a combined 1,000 marijuana plants near their respective properties. All five pled guilty in January of 2008.
- 21-year-old Nathan Paul Hurd of Parkers Lake, Ky. was sentenced to 71 months in prison and five years of supervised release for knowingly and intentionally manufacturing a total of 876 plants of marijuana in McCreary County. That’s the equivalent of 87.6 kilograms.
- 40-year-old James Allen Carter of Rockholds, Ky. received six months in prison and three years of supervised release for knowingly and intentionally manufacturing 54 plants of marijuana in Whitley County.
- 38-year-old Mearl Sharp of Keavy, Ky. was sentenced to 20 months in prison and three years of supervised release for knowingly and intentionally manufacturing 50 plants of marijuana in Leslie County.
- 40-year-old Kenny Bray of Hyden, Ky. received nine months in prison and two years of supervised release for knowingly and intentionally manufacturing 13 plants of marijuana in Leslie County.
- 43-year-old James G. Reece of Corbin, Ky., was sentenced to six months in prison and two years of supervised release for knowingly and intentionally manufacturing seven plants of marijuana in Whitley County.
Under Federal Law all five defendants must serve 85 percent of their prison sentence. Gregory A. Ousley represented the United States in all five cases.
