PRESS RELEASE

June 12, 2009

Lexington, KY. —The United States Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives jointly announced today that Robert Ernest “Bob” Silvey, 60, of Fleming County, KY., was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms. U.S. District Court judge Karl S. Forester also ordered Silvey to forfeit eleven firearms.

In March of 2009, Silvey pleaded guilty to the charges. He admitted that on October 27, 2008 the Buffalo Trace Regional Narcotics Task Force found him in possession of eleven firearms found at his home during the execution of a search warrant. The firearms included a Guide Lamp “grease gun” submachine gun, and a silencer attached to a .22 caliber rifle.

Silvey also admitted that at the time he possessed the firearms as convicted felon.

Under federal law, Silvey must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, and, upon release, will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office for two years.

The investigation was conducted by the Buffalo Trace Regional Narcotics Task Force (BTRNTF) and ATF. The United States was represented by Assistant United States Attorney Robert M. Duncan, Jr.
