Lexington, Ky. —Justino Lopez-Perez, 29, a resident of Mexico, pleaded guilty today to illegal entry before United States District Court Judge Danny C. Reeves after being indicted in February of 2008.
In the course of his guilty plea, Lopez-Perez admitted that he had entered the United States without permission.
James A. Zerhusen, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, and Paul Chambers, Resident Agent in Charge, Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, jointly made the announcement today after Lopez-Perez entered his guilty plea.
The investigation was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The United States was represented in the case by Assistant United States Attorneys David Marye and Robin Gwinn.
Lopez-Perez is currently scheduled to appear for sentencing in United States District court in Frankfort, Kentucky, on April 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Lopez-Perez faces a maximum prison sentence of six months. However, any sentence following conviction would be imposed by the court after consideration of the United States Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of sentences.
