Our Office

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky

U.S. Attorney’s Offices are part of the U.S. Department of Justice. United States Attorneys serve as the nation’s principal litigators and work under the direction of the Attorney General, directing the work of Assistant United States Attorneys, who conduct most of the trial work and much of the appellate work in cases where the United States is a party.

In the Western District of Kentucky, David J. Hale is the United States Attorney. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky has its headquarters in Louisville with unstaffed branch offices in Owensboro and Bowling Green and a staffed office in Paducah. In addition, there are a number of Special Assistant United States Attorneys, including military officers from Fort Campbell and Fort Knox.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is organized into three legal divisions – Criminal, Civil, and Appeals and Resource Counsel – and one non-legal division – Administrative.
