HOPKINSVILLE MEN INDICTED FOR BANK ROBBERY
– US Bank in Madisonville and First United Bank in Earlington victims
– All 3 charged with using a firearm
– One a convicted felon

OWENSBORO, KY - A federal grand jury in Bowling Green returned an indictment against James Edward Lett, Jr., age 25, Tony Lemont Gillis, age 35, and Shannon Ray Dycus, age 20, all of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on charges of bank robbery and using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Dycus was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Indictment alleges that on September 28, 2007, Lett and Gillis forcibly stole money from the First United Bank located at 101 East Main Street in Earlington, Kentucky and used a firearm, a Glock 9 mm handgun, to accomplish the robbery. The indictment further charges that on December 29, 2007, Lett, Gillis and Dycus committed another bank robbery at the US Bank branch located at 15 Chelsa Drive in Madisonville, Kentucky. During this robbery, Dycus was armed with a Davis Industries .380 handgun, and Lett was armed with a Glock 9 mm handgun. The Indictment charges all three with using a firearm during the crime. The indictment also alleges that Dycus had previously been convicted in Christian County Circuit Court for intimidating a participant in the legal process, a felony.

In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 5 years; and the minimum potential penalties are 7 years imprisonment

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert B. Bonar, and it was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Madisonville Police Department, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Department and the Kentucky State Police.

Lett, Gillis and Dycus are scheduled to appear for arraignment before the United States Magistrate Judge on April 24, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., in Owensboro, Kentucky.

only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless
proven guilty.
