PADUCAH SIBLINGS INDICTED ON CRACK-COCAINE DISTRIBUTION CHARGES

PADUCAH, KY - A federal grand jury in Paducah returned an indictment on April 8, 2008, against Johnny Lee Townsley, Jr., age 27, and Byron Demetrius Townsley, age 28, both of Paducah, McCracken County, on charges of conspiracy to distribute a mixture or substance containing cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky, and Paul Vido, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Louisville Field Division, jointly announced today.

The Indictment alleges on or about and between the Fall of 2005 and December 1, 2006, that Johnny Lee Townsley, Jr. and Byron Demetrius Townsley, knowingly conspired with each other and with others unknown to the Grand Jury, to knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute five grams or more of a mixture or substance containing cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine. The Indictment also charges Johnny Lee Townsley, Jr. with three additional counts of possessing with intent to distribute five grams or more of a mixture or substance containing cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine, and Byron Demetrius Townsley with one additional count of possessing with intent to distribute five grams or more of a mixture or substance containing cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine. The crack cocaine recovered by law enforcement has a street value of approximately $3,800.

In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are 40 years imprisonment and minimum potential penalties are 5 years imprisonment, a $2,000,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 4 years.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michele Thielhorn, and it was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Louisville Field Division/Paducah Satellite Office in partnership with the Paducah Police Department, as part of ATF’s mandated mission to reduce violent crime and other threats to public safety.

The indictment of a person by a Grand Jury is an accusation
only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless
proven guilty.
