ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED TO 2 YEARS AND 1 DAY FOR USING IDENTITY OF ANOTHER
– Previously deported in 2002 for drug trafficking
BOWLING GREEN, KY - Guillermo Lopez-Castillo, age 42, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, in Warren County, was sentenced on April 24, 2008, to 2 years and 1 day imprisonment in United States District Court, Bowling Green, Kentucky, for fraud and misuse of immigration documents and aggravated identity theft, U.S. Attorney David L. Huber of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Joseph H. McKinley, Jr., Judge, United States District Court, also sentenced Lopez-Castillo to 2 years supervised release following incarceration. There is no parole in the federal judicial system. Lopez-Castillo is an illegal alien, having been previously deported to Mexico on January 29, 2003, from Laredo, Texas. As such, Lopez-Castillo is subject to deportation after serving any sentence.
Lopez-Castillo had plead guilty to possessing a counterfeit United States Immigration and Naturalization Service Resident Alien Card, Form I-551, commonly known as a green card, that had falsely reflected the identity of another person on September 26, 2007, and to using the name, social security number, and alien registration number of another person. Specifically, Lopez-Castillo had used Resident Alien and Social Security numbers, which falsely identified him as another person, to obtain employment in the Bowling Green area. Lopez-Castillo had been previously convicted of criminal syndication and trafficking in marijuana in Jefferson Circuit Court.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ann Claire Phillips, and it was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
