INMATE CONVICTED FOR MAILING THREATENING LETTER
LOUISVILLE, KY - William Todd Osborne, age 43, of Eddyville, Kentucky, was found guilty on June 8, 2009, by a federal jury in United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky of using the United States Postal Service to mail a threatening communication.
During the trial, the jury heard testimony that in January 2008, Osborne, an inmate at the Kentucky State Penitentiary, in Eddyville, Kentucky, mailed a letter to a Louisville area business. In the letter, Osborne threatened, upon release from prison, to blow the windows out of the business with a shotgun and to mutilate the wife of the business owner.
Osborne faces maximum penalties of 5 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 3 years.
The was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael A. Bennett, and it was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Osborne is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25, 2009, at 11:45 a..m. in Louisville, Kentucky by Judge John G. Heyburn, II, United States District Court.
