TEN COLUMBIANS CHARGED WITH CONSPIRING TO DISTRIBUTE CRACK IN FEDERAL CRIMINAL COMPLAINT
BOWLING GREEN, KY - Travis Crew, age 26, Amanda Pepper, age 26, Laquisha Jones, age 27, Shamonica Jones, age 24, Michael Troy White, age 46, Joseph Smith, age 47, Melissa Owens, age 29, John A. Johnson, age 24, Tavana Stone, age 27, and Justin Dicken, age 22, all of Adair County, were charged in a June 11, 2009, criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green with conspiring to distribute crack cocaine and distributing crack cocaine and other controlled substances, Acting United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today. Stone and Dicken were already in state custody, and the other defendants were arrested on June 12, 2009.
According to the affidavit of a Special Agent with Federal Bureau of Investigation, the ten defendants were involved in a conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine with Roderick Curry, Mark Curry, and others. Roderick Curry and Mark Curry were federally indicted, along with six others, on May 20, 2009, for conspiring to distribute and distributing crack and other controlled substances. The affidavit states that wiretaps were used on Roderick Curry’s telephones, and that all of the defendants were recorded in telephone calls with Curry or others discussing the distribution of crack cocaine. The affidavit also lists numerous recorded controlled buys of crack cocaine and other controlled substances from several of the defendants.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Kentucky State Police. Acting United States Attorney Candace G. Hill praised the efforts of the FBI and the KSP in their effective response to these very serious offenses.
In the event of a conviction, the minimum potential penalties are 10 years imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release, with a maximum $4,000,000 fine.
