LOUISVILLE MAN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE COCAINE AND CRACK COCAINE

LOUISVILLE, KY - De'Sean Lee Mitchell, age 30, of Jeffersontown, Kentucky, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment to be followed by 5 years’ supervised release for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and cocaine, by United States District Judge Jennifer B. Coffman, Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky and Paul Vido, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Louisville Field Division, jointly announced today. There is no parole in the Federal Judicial system.

Mitchell had previously admitted that on November 2, 2007, he was in possession of approximately 164 grams of cocaine, and 127 grams of crack cocaine, with a total estimated street value of $29,100.00, and it was his intent to distribute the drugs on the streets of the Western District of Kentucky. Mitchell further admitted that at the time he had in his possession $2,912.00 in drug proceeds and two handguns: a Bersa, Thunder 380 .380 caliber; and a Desert Eagle .44 magnum.

This is a Project Backfire prosecution. Project Backfire is a cooperative effort by the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, the Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorneys Office, the Louisville Metro Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the United States Attorney’s Office to ensure that firearm offenses are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the state and federal law.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mac Shannon. The Louisville Field Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) conducted the investigation in partnership with the Jeffersontown Police Department, as part of ATF’s ongoing commitment to reduce violent crime and other threats to public safety.
