– Former postal employee charged with theft and fraud
Louisville, KY - Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that a federal grand jury in Louisville returned a superseding indictment against Jessica Hillard, age 24, of Louisville, Kentucky, in Jefferson County, on charges of theft of mail matter and fraud in connection with access devices.
The Superseding Indictment alleges that between 2008 through February of 2009, Hillard, a former postal service employee, rifled through the mail and stole gift cards from mail letters, cards and packages. Furthermore, the superseding indictment alleges that Hillard had in her possession more than 15 devices which she was not authorized to possess. In fact, investigators discovered over 72 gift cards in her vehicle alone.
In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are 15 years' imprisonment, a $500,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of up to 3 years.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lettricea Jefferson-Webb, and it was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General.
Hillard is scheduled to appear for arraignment on the superseding indictment before the United States Magistrate Judge on August 18, 2009, at 9:00 a.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.
