OWENSBORO MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO THEFT OF MAIL
– Former postal employee admits to taking mail while employed
OWENSBORO, KY - James Michael Leachman, age 54, of Owensboro, Kentucky, in Davisses County, Kentucky pleaded guilty on August 13, 2009, to charges of theft of mail matter, Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.
The Indictment alleged that between 2007 through 2008, Leachman, while a clerk at the Owensboro Post Office, stole gift cards from mail, letters, cards and packages.
The maximum potential penalties are 5 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years supervised release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lettricea Jefferson-Webb, and it was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General.
Leachman will be sentenced by United States District Court Judge Joseph McKinley, Jr. on November 12, 2009 in Owensboro, Kentucky.
