LOUISVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS AND SIX MONTHS FOR RECEIVING AND POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

LOUISVILLE, KY - Alexander Raymond Lucas, age 27, of Louisville, Kentucky, in Jefferson County, was sentenced to 7 years’ and 6 months’ imprisonment in United States District Court, Louisville, Kentucky, for receiving and possessing child pornography and for manufacturing marijuana, Acting United States Attorney Candace G. Hill announced today. Jennifer B. Coffman, Judge, United States District Court, also sentenced Lucas to 10 years’ supervised release following incarceration. There is no parole in the federal judicial system.

Facts

On December 18, 2007, the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) executed a consent search of Lucas’s house and found fifteen marijuana plants growing in a bedroom closet. The closet was outfitted with grow lights and lined with reflective paper to aid in the growing process. After the marijuana plants were found, LMPD searched his computer and found several images of child pornography. A subsequent forensic analysis of Lucas’s computer revealed over 900 images and over 45 videos containing child pornography, including images depicting bondage, torture, and beastiality.

Prior Court Action

A criminal complaint and arrest warrant were issued for Lucas on February 26, 2008, and Lucas was arrested and subsequently indicted on March 4, 2008. On April 22, 2009, Lucas pled guilty to receiving child pornography via the internet, possessing child pornography, and manufacturing marijuana.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
