LOUISVILLE WOMAN CHARGED WITH MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS
– Woman charged with defrauding HUD

LOUISVILLE, KY - Acting United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that an information was filed against Pamela Burton, age 50, of Louisville, Kentucky, for making false statements to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Information alleges that between 2003 through 2005, Burton conspired to receive housing assistance she was not entitled to receive. In addition in 2006 and 2007, Burton made false statements to the Department of Housing and Urban Development denying she had a familial relationship with the owner of the rental property she occupied. As a result, Burton received housing assistance benefit valued at over $20,000.

In the event of a conviction, the maximum potential penalties are 1 year imprisonment for each count, a $100,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of up to 1 year.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lettricea Jefferson-Webb, and it was investigated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General.

Burton is scheduled to appear for arraignment before the United States Magistrate Judge on August 31, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.
