TWO HART COUNTY MEN PLEAD GUILTY TO STEALING GOVERNMENT FUNDS
BOWLING GREEN, KY - Buford Williams, age 53, of Hardyville, Kentucky, and Kerry D. Bradley, age 50, of Munfordville, Kentucky, both in Hart County, pled guilty to stealing government funds, United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.
Williams and Bradley admitted that between September 2004 and December 2008, they cashed monthly Department of Veterans Affairs benefit checks made payable to Williams’ mother, who died in September 2004, resulting in a loss of over $35,000.
The maximum potential penalties are 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 3 years.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Weiser, and it was investigated by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General, and the Munfordville Police Department.
The pleas were entered before Thomas B. Russell, Chief Judge, United States District Court, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Williams and Bradley are scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Russell on December 1, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
