ALIEN INDICTED FOR ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY
– Had been deported on several other occasions

LOUISVILLE, KY - A federal grand jury in Louisville returned an indictment against Sarpiento Perez-Lopez, a/k/a Armando Felipe, a/k/a Sergio Perez, age 25,a native of Mexico, on charges of illegal re-entry into the United States after having been previously deported, United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.

The Indictment alleges that on or about September 2, 2009, Perez-Lopez, was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky, after records indicated he had previously been deported in January 2003, twice in May 2003, in May of 2006, and again in September 2006. At no time had Perez-Lopez received the consent of the United States Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to re-enter the United States.

If convicted, the maximum potential penalties are 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of 3 years.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James H. Barr and it was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Perez-Lopez is scheduled to appear for arraignment before the United States Magistrate Judge on October 22, 2009 at 9:15 a.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.

only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless
proven guilty.
