FORMER POSTAL EMPLOYEE SENTENCED ON CHARGES OF THEFT OF MAIL
– Former postal employee sentenced for taking mail while employed
OWENSBORO, KY - James Michael Leachman, age 54, of Owensboro, Kentucky, in Daviess County, Kentucky was sentenced on November 23, 2009, by United States District Court Judge Joseph McKinley, Jr., on charges of theft of mail matter, United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today.
Leachman previously pled guilty to stealing gift cards from mail, letters, cards and packages between 2007 through 2008. At the time, Leachman was employed as a clerk at the Owensboro Post Office.
Leachman was sentenced to 3 years' probation and has to serve one month of home confinement. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lettricea Jefferson-Webb, and it was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General.
