Crime Prevention
All of us who live in New Orleans and the surrounding parishes are concerned about crime, and with good reason. Despite enjoying a decline in most categories of crime, murder and car theft are once again on the rise. After many years of this fight, we have found there are two main avenues to dealing with the problem.
The first avenue is to vigorously prosecute crimes, especially those which are most responsible for increasing murder and theft. This is being carried out with greater efficacy through such programs as Project Safe Neighborhoods and our recently consolidated Drug & Violent Crime Unit.
The second way to prevent crime is to help our next generation resist having any interest or desire to pursue crime. This has and continues to be accomplished through Project Weed & Seed and associated initiatives which get members of our office and other law enforcement agencies involved with the community at the grass roots level.
