FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 14, 2012

CAREY JONES, aka “Bean” and CHINA STEWART, aka “Ms. China”, pled guilty today in federal court before U. S. District Court Judge Stanwood R. Duval, Jr. to various federal violations stemming from a federal indictment which was handed down in March of this year.

CAREY JONES pled guilty to participating in the RICO conspiracy, two non-fatal shootings of Larry Williams and Glinn Butler, as well as to his participation in the murder of Ms. Eula May Ivey.

JONES entered into a plea agreement of which Judge Duval deferred his decision to accept. Should Judge Duval accept the agreement, Jones faces a sentence of life in prison as to the RICO conspiracy and the murder of Eula May Ivey, and 30 years in prison for the non-fatal shootings of Larry Williams and Glinn Butler.

STEWART also entered into a plea agreement of which Judge Duval deferred his decision to accept. Should Judge Duval accept the agreement, STEWART faces a maximum sentence of five (5) years in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.

On March 23, 2012 the Federal Grand Jury returned a twenty three count indictment charging CAREY JONES, aka “Bean; CHINA STEWART, aka “Ms. China”; and several other individuals (TYRONNE STEVENSON, aka “Duke”; THERON GOLSTON, aka “Thema”; RYAN CARROLL, aka “Ronnie Boo”; BERNELL WILLIAMS aka “Bussy”, aka “A-Boogie”; and WALTER CONLEY, aka “Ike Neezy”) with participating in a RICO conspiracy, drug conspiracy, firearms conspiracy, and several substantive acts of violence.

According to the superseding indictment, the above listed defendants were members and associates in fact of this criminal enterprise that operated in an area of the City that historically encompassed the Hollygrove area of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Defendant Ryan Carroll has already pled guilty to participating in the RICO conspiracy and to his involvement in the non-fatal shooting of Corey Morris. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2013.

The remaining defendants, TYRONNE STEVENSON, aka “Duke”; THERON GOLSTON, aka “Thema”; BERNELL WILLIAMS aka “Bussy”, aka “A-Boogie”; and WALTER CONLEY, aka “Ike Neezy” are scheduled to stand trial on January 14, 2013.

U. S. Attorney Letten stated that this case is a clear example of the effort that the federal government will put forward to combat the violent crime that is gripping this city. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (A.T.F.) have been working on this case and have been steadfast in their resolve to bring these violent offenders to justice.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr.
