
About the Office
The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana is located near the Hale Boggs Federal Building, 650 Poydras Street, Suite 1600, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130 and may be contacted at (504) 680-3000. It is one of 94 such offices across the United States. Whether large or small, wherever a federal court district is established, a U.S. Attorney's office exists there as well. The U.S. Attorney has many functions including:
- the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government;
- the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and
- the collection of debts owed the Federal government which are administratively uncollectible.
Nearing the close of Fiscal Year 2011, the office employed a total of 110 persons, 59 AUSAs and 51 support staff. AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division total 50, and the Criminal Division support staff totaled 23. The Civil Division's staff near the close of Fiscal Year 2011 consisted of 9 AUSAs, and 10 support staff.
The Administration Division included a total of 18 support employees at the close of Fiscal Year 2011.
