July 27, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STEPHEN MAYEAUX, age 52, and NELLIE ANN MILLER, age 50, residents of Lafitte and Pineville, Louisiana, respectively, were charged in a two-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for stealing two FEMA trailers in violation of federal law, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on two separate occasions in or about November or December, 2006, in Lafitte, Lousiana, STEPHEN MAYEAUX and NELLIE ANN MILLER stole a FEMA trailer which is property of the United States, each of which was valued at more than $5,000 but less than $10,000. If convicted, MAYEAUX and MILLER face a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Sean Toomey.
