August 1, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ISAAC KESHAWN WILLIAMS, age 29, a resident of New Orleans, pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to illegally possessing an unregistered short barreled “sawed off” shotgun and illegally possessing the weapon, while on active probation, after having been convicted of a felony offense, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.
According to court documents, on March 19, 2007, NOPD investigators, executing a search warrant in the 3000 block of First Street in New Orleans recovered a shotgun that had been modified by cutting shorter the shoulder stock and barrel. Working in conjunction with ATF agents, investigators determined that the shotgun had an illegal barrel length. The investigation revealed that WILLIAMS had recently obtained the shotgun from another individual. Law enforcement also determined that WILLIAMS was on active probation with the State of Louisiana based on a May 12, 2005, felony conviction in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
Based on the investigation, WILLIAMS, was taken into federal custody and a federal complaint was filed against WILLIAMS on March 20, 2007. WILLIAMS was ordered detained without bond at a federal detention hearing held on March 21, 2007 and he was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 30, 2007.
WILLIAMS’ sentencing is set for November 7, 2007, and WILLIAMS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years, a fine of $500,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Agency and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tony Gordon Sanders.
