FEDERAL GRAND JURY RETURNS SUPERSEDING INDICTMENT ON GUN CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ERIC LEE HUDSON age 24, a resident of New Orleans, was charged in a two-count superseding indictment by a Federal Grand Jury with possession of firearm while subject to a Louisiana Uniform Abuse Prevention Order and after previous felony conviction, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, on May 23, 2007, New Orleans Police Officers encountered HUDSON during a traffic stop and observed a .40 caliber semi-automatic Smith & Wesson handgun in plain view. Law enforcement determine that HUDSON was the subject of a Louisiana Uniform Abuse Prevention Order entered by the Orleans Parish Municipal Court on October 16, 2006 which prohibited from possessing a firearm. Further investigation also deteremined that HUDSON was convicted on February 26, 2007 in the Criminal District Court for the Parish of East Baton Rouge for illegal use of weapons.
If convicted, HUDSON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of up to $250,000, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the Indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Sanford C. Coats.
