August 10, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PATRICK WAYNE JONES, JR, age 31, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged in a two-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for possessing firearms after being convicted of a felony, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to Count 1 of the indictment, on December 13, 2005, JONES possessed a Springfield semiautomatic rifle. Count 2 also alleged that JONES possessed a Llama .45 caliber pistol on July 6, 2007. Both counts alleged that JONES had been previously convicted in Orleans Parish Criminal District court on August 3, 1999 for possession of Heroin.
If convicted, JONES faces on each count a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U.S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Abram McGull, II.
