NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 6 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR CRACK DISTRIBUTION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NAKIA WILLIAMS, age 32, resident of New Orleans was sentenced to seventy-eight (78) months, to be followed by a term of five (5) years of supervised release, in federal court before Honorable Mary Ann Vial Lemmon, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
On August 8, 2007, WILLIAMS pled guilty as charged to one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine. According to court documents, WILLIAMS approached an intersection in New Orleans, prepared to distribute crack cocaine in exchange for U.S. Currency. Upon seeing Special Agents and Task Force Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, WILLIAMS fled on foot and threw down several baggies of crack cocaine, hiding in several residences during his flight. With the aid of “Primo,” a New Orleans Police Department K-9, WILLIAMS was apprehended.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New Orleans Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sivashree Sundaram.
