NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO 14 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR GUN VIOLATIONS
December 5, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TIMREK ANDREWS, age 27, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to fourteen (14) months imprisonment for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of confinement, Judge Fallon imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the supervised release, the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, on February 13, 2007, officers with the New Orleans Police Department responded to a call reporting gun shots in the 4300 block of St. Claude Avenue. Upon responding to the scene, the NOPD officers encountered ANDREWS inside a building in possession of a Hi Point Model C-9 9mm semi automatic pistol. Further investigation revealed that ANDREWS had previously been convicted in Orleans Parish for a felony, specifically possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. The case was adopted federally and ANDREWS was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury in March, 2007.
After sentencing, ANDREWS was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives along with officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Juan M. Masini.
