ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED FOR RE-ENTRY AFTER DEPORTATION

JEAN ARIBOINOTE, a national of Haiti who was found in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to 22 months imprisonment for illegal reentry of a deported alien, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Vance imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the thee year term the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on June 15, 2007, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputies found JEAN ARIBOINOTE in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were notified by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office that JEAN ARIBOINOTE, who was in custody, was suspected to be an illegal alien. Further investigation revealed that JEAN ARIBOINOTEwas an illegal alien who had been deported from the United States on July 17, 2000, following his arrest and conviction for Trafficking in Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, and Sale, Manufacture or Delivery of Cocaine, in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Dade County, Florida. ARIBOINOTE did not receive consent from the United States Attorney General, or his designated successor, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, to apply for readmission to the United States since the time of the defendant's previous deportation.

The Court imposed a sentence within the recommended guidelines range. After sentencing, JEAN ARIBOINOTE was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.
