GONZALES MAN INDICTED FOR FEDERAL DRUG VIOLATIONS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STEPHEN JOHN DAIGLE, JR., 36, a resident of Gonzales, Louisiana, was charged with violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act in an indictment returned yesterday by a Federal Grand Jury, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the indictment, it is alleged that on September 2, 2006, DAIGLE possessed with the intent to distribute 50 or more grams of methamphetamine. If convicted, DAIGLE faces a mandatory minimum of ten (10) years and a maximum of life imprisonment, a $4 million fine, and five (5) years of supervised release .

The United States Attorney cautions that an indictment is merely an allegation and that all persons charged via an indictment are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This investigation was conducted by Special Agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Boitmann.
