KENTWOOD MAN INDICTED FOR ROBBERY OF A U.S. POST OFFICE IN TANGIPAHOA PARISH

CICERO LOMONT MYERS, age 32, a resident of Kentwood, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury with robbing the United States Post Office on East Railroad Avenue in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, with a dangerous weapon announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the criminal complaint and indictment in this matter, on March 20, 2008, MYERS entered the post office and climbed over the counter, producing a knife and confronting a postal clerk. It is alleged that while holding the postal clerk and placing her in jeopardy with the use of the knife, MYERS first severed the telephone lines then robbed the clerk. MYERS then locked the clerk in an internal room before making good his escape. On March 27, 2008, MYERS was apprehended for this crime.
If convicted, MYERS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty-five (25) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and five (5) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Matthew Coman.
