April 17, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROBERT C. MCNAMARA, age 46, of Orlando, Florida, was charged in a two count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury with mailing threatening communications, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the indictment, MCNAMARA mailed a threatening letter to former Orleans Parish District Attorney on September 15, 2003, and to New Orleans City Council Member-at-Large Arnie Fielkow on August 23, 2007. It is alleged that the letters contained specific threats of physical harm against Mr. Jordan and Mr. Fielkow, as well as Mr. Fielkow’s family members.

MCNAMARA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five (5) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment as to each count of the indictment.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michael W. Magner.
