MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 15 YEARS FOR VIOLATION OF FEDERAL DRUG LAWS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MICHAEL MARTIN, age 34, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to 188 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with possessing with the intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine base (crack), announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested MARTIN on April 11, 2007, on Mandeville Street after observing him engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction with another individual.

The case was investigated by the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Liz Privitera of the Violent Crime Unit.
