RIVER RIDGE WOMAN SENTENCED AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO DELAY OF MAIL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHRISTINA MARIE BROOKS, age 23, a resident of River Ridge, was sentenced to two years probation, ordered to obtain a G.E.D. and/or vocational training, ordered to pay a $250.00 fine and a $25.00 special assessment after pleading guilty to one-count of delay of mail, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
CHRISTINA MARIE BROOKS was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier after she pled guilty to one count of delay of mail. The single count carries a maximum statutory penalty of one year imprisonment.
CHRISTINA MARIE BROOKS was charged with unlawfully opening mail not directed to her; to wit, a United States Treasury check in the amount of $4,587.00.
CHRISTINA MARIE BROOKS was charged in a one-count bill of information on January 8, 2008.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre’ Jones.
