MAN SENTENCED FOR SOCIAL SECURITY FRAUD

April 30, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GARRY MAJOR, age 45, Napoleonville, Louisiana, previously entered a guilty plea on January 22, 2008, to receiving social security disability benefits since May, 1992 but failing to report to his wages and income as required by the Social Security Administration resulting in a loss to Social Security Administration of $ 154,010.02. As a result of the defendant’s fraudulent activity, the defendant was sentenced today by U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to 5 years probation, full restitution to the Social Security Administration, no fine, special probation conditions including the financial disclosure condition and a $100 special assessment announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

The Court imposed a sentence below the recommended guidelines range at the request of the Government and the defense because of the defendant’s present physical and mental condition and because the defendant has no prior convictions.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Social Security Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney, Barbara Bosserman and Marvin Opotowsky.
