TERREBONNE PARISH MAN PLEADSGUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

MAURICE MATTHEWS, a 34-year old male, from Houma, Louisiana, pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to distributing 50 grams or more of crack cocaine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten today.
According to court documents, on May 10, 2006, MATTHEWS sold more than 100 grams of crack cocaine to a confidential source that was working with law enforcement. Further investigation revealed that MATTHEWS had prior convictions for various felony drug offenses arising out of Terrebonne Parish.
The Government filed a “multiple bill” charging MATTHEWS with having one such conviction. As a result, MATTHEWS faces a minimum term of twenty (20) years imprisonment and a maximum term of life imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for August 20, 2008.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
