NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUG AND GUN CHARGES
October 22, 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOUIS RYNOLE HENRY, age 19, a resident of New Orleans, LA, pled guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Kurt Engelhardt to a three-count indictment for possession with the intent to distribute a quantity of crack cocaine, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to pleadings filed in connection with the guilty plea, on Friday, June 22, 2007, New Orleans Police Department Officers were on a proactive patrol in the Fourth District when they noticed that HENRY appeared to be smoking a marijuana cigarette. The officers then observed HENRY retrieving what appeared to be an assault riffle, which was propped up against a yellow Chevy Nova that was parked in the driveway. Henry then tossed the rifle onto the side of the home.
The officers exited the vehicle and HENRY jumped over the fence at the rear of the house. The officers gave chase and when they apprehended HENRY, they saw four pieces of individually plastic wrapped crack cocaine fall from HENRY’s right pants leg. More crack cocaine was found on HENRY’s person after he was searched. The AK-47 was retrieved and found to be fully loaded with one live round in the chamber, one magazine on the rifle, and a second magazine taped to the first one. HENRY’s prior felony conviction related to a violation of L.A.R.S. 40:967(c)(2) (possession of crack) in Orleans Parish in 2007.
HENRY is schedule to be sentenced on February 11, 2009.
This investigation is being handled by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Prosecution of the case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Brian J. Capitelli.
