ALIEN SENTENCED AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

November 6, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENE AMAYA RAMOS, age 31, a resident of Honduras, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to time served upon his serving almost four months imprisonment, after pleading guilty to one-count of illegal re-entry by an alien previously deported, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

RENE AMAYA RAMOS was charged with being an alien who was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in New Orleans, LA without the Attorney General of the United States or his designated successor, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.

RAMOS was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 31, 2008.

The case was investigated by the U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The case was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorneys Irfan Saeed and Robert Weir.
