BATON ROUGE WOMAN SENTENCED FOR THEFT OF POSTAL MONEY ORDER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SANDRA F. FRANCOIS, age 46 and a resident of Baton Rouge, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Carl Barbier yesterday to one (1) year of probation after having pled guilty to one count of Conversion of Postal Money Order, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Barbier imposed restitution in the amount of $800.00 payable to the U.S. Postal Service.

According to court documents, FRANCOIS pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Barbier on August 20, 2008 to a Bill of Information charging her with one count of Conversion of Postal Money Order. According to the Factual Basis, FRANCOIS, who was employed with the Post Office in Paulina, Louisiana, cashed a U.S. Postal Money Order in the amount of $800.00 on December 5, 2007 in Baton Rouge, LA, which had been taken from the Paulina Post Office.

The case was investigated by the Unites States Post Service, Office of Inspector General and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera.
