NEW ORLEANS MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS WHILE EMPLOYED AT B.W. COOPER HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NORMAN TAYLOR, age 53, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana was charged yesterday in a two-count Indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for theft of government funds, announced the U. S. Attorney’s Office.

According to the indictment, TAYLOR was an employee of the B.W. Resident Management Corporation in 2006 through 2008 and was tasked with coordinating the security detail for the B.W. Cooper Housing Development. Federal monies were given to the Management Corporation during his tenure for use to pay for the security services. Count One of the Indictment alleges that the defendant stole in excess of $5,000 of these monies between March, 2006 and March, 2007. Count Two of the Indictment alleges that the defendant stole an additional amount in excess of $5,000 between March, 2007 and March, 2008. A summons has been issued which requires TAYLOR to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge and answer to the charges.

Each count of the Indictment carries a maximum penalty of ten (10) years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Restitution may also be ordered by the sentencing judge.

U. S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was jointly investigated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Mark A. Miller, Chief, Organized Crime Strike Force Unit and Assistant U. S. Attorney Emily K. Greenfield.
