ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED TO SERVE TIME IN FEDERAL PRISON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENE GARCIA JIMENEZ, age 29, a citizen of Guatemala, was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier, to forty-six (46) months imprisonment for illegal reentry of a previously deported alien, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Barbier imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on December 4, 2007, JIMENEZ was found in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana and arrested for providing false identifying information, operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the United States and for failing to register as a sex offender following his conviction for felony Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile in Terrebonne Parish.

After sentencing, RENE GARCIA JIMENEZ was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Julia K. Evans.
