NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

CRAIG JONES, a/k/a “Paco,” age 35 , a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court before U. S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt to one count of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute at least 500 grams or more of cocaine hydrochloride, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, JONES was supplied between 2 to 3.5 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride by his co-conspirators Corey Muse and Kevin Cockerham who pled guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and more than 1 kilogram of heroin. Both are awaiting sentencing and face a mandatory minimum of 20 years to life imprisonment.

JONES was additionally charged with having one prior felony drug conviction which subjects him to enhanced penalties under the federal controlled substances statutes. JONES faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison for his role in the conspiracy. Sentencing has been scheduled for March 11, 2009.

This investigation was conducted by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U. S. Attorney Emily Greenfield.
