ALIEN PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL RE-ENTRY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
J. FRANCISCO GARZA-CASTILLO, age 36, a resident of Mexico, pled guilty to one-count of illegal re-entry by a deported alien before U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
The indictment charging J. FRANCISCO GARZA-CASTILLO with one count of illegal reentry of deported alien also included a notice of sentencing enhancement based on GARZA-CASTILLO’s prior aggravated felony conviction. With the enhancement, the single count carries a maximum statutory penalty of twenty years imprisonment.
J. FRANCISCO GARZA-CASTILLO was charged with being an alien who was previously deported and was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in Orleans Parish, Louisiana, without the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.
J. FRANCISCO GARZA-CASTILLO was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 23, 2008.
The case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Matt Chester.
