FEDERAL GRAND JURY INDICTS TERREBONNE PARISH MAN FOR DRUGS

May 28, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STEVEN HEBERT, age 34, a resident of Schriever, Louisiana, was charged today in a five-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for drug trafficking crack cocaine and powder cocaine, and for being a previously convicted felon in possession of firearms, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on three separate occasions, HEBERT distributed an amount of crack cocaine and on another occasion, he distributed an amount of powder cocaine. The indictment also alleges HEBERT, who has a previous felony conviction, was in possession of a firearm.

If convicted, HEBERT faces a possible maximum of life imprisonment, a $4,000,000.00 fine, and at least five (5) years of supervised release.

U. S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
