NEW ORLEANS MAN CHARGED WITH OBSTRUCTING UNITED STATES MAIL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ADAM JONES, age 22, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was charged in a one count bill of information with obstruction of United States Mail, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to court documents, prior to December 18, 2008, ADAM JONES was employed as a letter carrier for the Gretna Main Post Office. On that day, according to the bill of information, JONES unlawfully dumped 3 bundles, or 150 pieces, of United States mail in a dumpster that was assigned to his route.
If convicted, the defendant faces a possible maximum penalty of six (6) months imprisonment, one year of supervised release, a $5,000 fine, and a $10 special assessment
U.S. Attorney Jim Letten reiterated that the bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by agents from the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Matt Chester.
