TEXAS RESIDENT PLEADS GUILTY TO VIOLATING FEDERAL DRUG LAWS

GILBERT PEREZ, age 63, resident of Wichita Falls, Texas pled guilty in federal court yesterday before U. S. District Jay C. Zainey to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to factual basis, Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration were informed by a confidential source that he had been contacted by PEREZ who was enroute to Hammond to sell a kilogram of cocaine. While under surveillance, the confidential source met with PEREZ and when the defendant produced the cocaine, he was arrested.
PEREZ faces a possible maximum term of forty (40) years imprisonment, a fine of $2,000,000 and four (4) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing has been scheduled for September 15, 2009, at 10:00 A.M.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Agency, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Spiro Latsis.
