June 24, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KIM JERRY LEE, age 25, and JEREMIAH HARRIS, age 26, both residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, were sentenced by U. S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance today for their involvement in a heroin distribution conspiracy, announced U. S Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the drug charge, LEE had also pled guilty to receiving a firearm after he had been charged with a felony offense. Specifically, Judge Vance sentenced LEE to 57 months imprisonment, and HARRIS to 46 months imprisonment. In addition to the term of imprisonment for each defendant, Judge Vance imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. During the three-year term, each defendant will be under federal supervision and risk additional terms of imprisonment should they violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court document, LEE and HARRIS worked with each other distributing heroin to customers in the New Orleans area. Agents made several controlled purchases of heroin from LEE during the investigation. In the final transaction, LEE and HARRIS sent Tiffany Landry to conduct the transaction, whereupon Landry was arrested. She was subsequently sentenced to six (6) months imprisonment. A co-defendant, JOHN CLARK, who was also named in the indictment, is awaiting trial.
In a separate investigation, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, discovered that LEE had previously purchased a firearm from a pawn shop while he facing a felony charge for possession of heroin in Orleans Parish.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration along with officers with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Department. LEE’s firearm case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin G. Boitmann.
