NEW ORLEANS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FEDERAL DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

GERALD M. ROBERTS, age 42, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court yesterday before U. S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt to six counts of drug distribution and weapons charges, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to the factual basis, ROBERTS sold marijuana and crack cocaine to undercover agents several times in the summer and fall of 2008. ROBERTS, a previously convicted felon, also sold the undercover agents a Lorcin Model L380 semi-automatic pistol. ROBERTS’ prior felony conviction precludes him from legally possessing any firearms.
ROBERTS faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment Sentencing is set for September 23, 2009.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with officers of the Louisiana State Police and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters of the Violent Crime Unit.
